Jarrow Roofing play host to Billingham Synthonia on Saturday afternoon in the Northern League Division 1 in a battle of two clubs who have started the season slowly.

Roofing are currently without a win in their last three league games, having picked up just one point since their victory against Penrith over a fortnight ago while Sinners are pointless since their return to the Northern League top flight following last season’s promotion from Division Two.

Roofing’s joint-manager, Richie McLoughlin, is rueing his side’s bad luck with injuries, a factor which has undoubtedly contributed to the lack of desired results of late.

“We’re having a nightmare at the minute with injured players. Ryan Burton picked up a bad injury on Tuesday night at Ryhope so it doesn’t look like he’s fit. Then Paul Gardiner, Dennis Knight, Chris Winn, Dan Kirkup, Brad Varga and Shaun Vipond are all out.”

However, McLoughlin remains defiant in his search to break the team’s recent poor run of form and paid tribute to the players who have filled in the gaps in his side.

“All credit to the lads who are playing, and some are playing with injuries, as well as the few young lads who are playing non-stop,” McLoughlin added.

Their opponents, Billingham Synthonia, currently prop up the league table and will be looking for their first points of the new season when they travel to the Boldon C.A. Sports Ground.

Billingham Synthonia

Despite Synners’ lack of results, the Roofing supremo is under no illusions as to what is expected of his team on Saturday.

“It’s a big game for both sides and I’m sure the lads will be up for it. We need to keep on playing and beat the jinx. It’s hard but it needs to be done. We need to be solid, takes our chances, look after the ball and make few mistakes.”

Some positive news for the Roofers is the return of Anth Myers who missed the 2-0 loss at Ryhope in midweek with Corey Barnes, recently returning from an 11-month injury layoff, and Daryll Donnelly, who returned to playing action from the bench on Tuesday, also looking to build up their fitness levels.

Roofing will kick off at 3pm against Billingham Synthonia at the Boldon C.A. Sports Ground. The postcode is NE35 9AL.

Places are also available on the coach to Eccleshill United next Saturday when Roofing travel to the outskirts of Bradford in the FA Vase. Seats are £15 per person and are available by contacting Richie McLoughlin on 07714 525 549.
