Jarrow Roofing comfortably beat Hebburn Reyrolle in their second game of the Tyne & Wear LGV Summer Cup.
Ethan Wood opened the scoring before Dan Kirkup doubled the lead moments later. A penalty from Dennis Knight put Roofing three goals up at the break and substitute Tom Bailey rounded off the scoring in the second half.
It took only ten minute before Roofing took the lead. Knight’s exquisite through ball was latched onto by Wood who calmly slotted it into the bottom right corner.
Two minutes later, Knight’s corner from the right hand side was met by the head of Kirkup and powered into the net.
Debutant Paul Garthwaite almost made it three in spectacular fashion after 18 minutes with a lob from the corner of the box but his effort dropped over the top of the net.
Garthwaite went close again moments later. Knight pulled a free-kick back to the edge of the penalty area but Garthwaite’s effort ended up just wide of the post.
Garthwaite’s liveliness was rewarded in the 27th minute after he was brought down in the box, resulting in a Roofing penalty. Knight stepped up and stuck the spot kick into the top left corner of the net, leaving the Reyrolle goalkeeper without a chance.
The second half saw a more reserved approach from both sides as the result became inevitable and legs began to tire.
Roofing still created their fair share of chances, though. Chris Winn raced onto Lee Kerr’s ball over the top of the Reyrolle defence but his shot was palmed away by the ‘keeper in the 50th minute.
Three minutes later, Knight took charge of another set piece situation but this time his free-kick was just wide of the target.
Bailey completed the scoring with a nice football on 64 minutes with a nice finish from the edge of the box.
Opportunities were hard for Reyrolle to come by throughout the match as they were mostly limited to speculative shots from distance.
Roofing will now progress to Saturday’s final with a 3pm kick off against Sunderland West End. Finals day at the Hebburn Sports Ground will start at 11am with Boldon C.A. vs Reyrolle followed by Hebburn Town vs Jarrow at 1pm then the final at 3pm. Admission for all three games will cost £4.
