Jarrow Roofing ground out a hard fought victory at Team Northumbria as Dennis Knight’s cool finish after just 59 seconds secured the three Northern League Division 1 points.
With a number of players still missing, joint managers Richie McLoughlin and Mark Collingwood weren’t aided by Jamie Marshall failing a late fitness test with Corey Barnes stepping into the backline for his first start after eleven months on the injury list.
Yet the disjointed preparations were cast aside as Roofing broke down an early Team North attack to strike forward with venom.
A defensive clearance was collected by Davey Palmer just inside the Roofing half and his square ball to Lewis Walton was then slipped through to Knight.
The forward advanced onto the ball, held off his marker, drew out the keeper and calmly curled the ball into the net to give the Roofers the lead.
Roofing conceded much of the possession to the hosts, but defended disciplined, restricting much of the chances on Shaun Newbrook’s goal to long range efforts.
When the home side found the target, Newbrook was equal to them, pulling off a couple of impressive saves.
Roofing had the opportunities to wrap the game up but the quality of the final ball deserted them.
However, the points were secured along with a first clean sheet of the season heading into Saturday’s FA Vase tie at Eccleshill United.
